Neheim, similar to Arnsberg, looks back onto a long varied history. 1358 count Gottfried IV grants a town's ordinances and privileges to Neheim. During the following troubled times the "Straw Village", to this day the historical heart of Neheim, burns down completely several times. Lootings, epidemics and times of poverty do not let the little town at the confluence of the rivers "Ruhr" and "Möhne" come to rest. A town blaze in the year 1807 and the following years of hunger take it out of Neheim's citizens again.
